On The Run II

August 15, 2018

On The Run II (OTRII) from husband and wife duo American Singer Beyonce and Rapper Jay- Z world wide tour kicked off on June 6, 2018 and will end on October 4, 2018 making its way to 15 cities across the UK and Europe and 24 cities in North America which is expected to gross between $180m and $200m. Chicago was graced with OTRII on August 10-11, 2018 at the Soldier Field Arena, home to the Chicago Bears. twinKonnections was in the house at Soldier Field for the first On the Run Tour in 2014 and wondered if this team could top that electrifying performance. Well they did!!! The show kicked off with singers Chloe X Halle, sisters from the show Grown-ish, who became known to the world when they won the Radio Disney's "Next BIG Thing" competition. Beyonce took notice of this pair when they uploaded a rendition of her song "Pretty Hurts" on You Tube. From there, as the saying goes “the rest is history” reigns true for these ladies. Since that time, they have opened up for Beyonce on a European leg of the Formation tour and other Beyonce projects. These two were a delight. They displayed a wonderful spirit and great harmony. We loved their performance. Next to hit the stage was DJ Khaled and the moment he touched the mic the crowd was screaming. He had everyone on their feet singing and dancing to the current hot songs and some oldies that everyone loves like Bell Biv Devoe's “Poison." He brought out Rapper Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper as surprise guests. Chance peformed a few of his songs including his hit “No Problem" and some of his new music with DJ Khaled. DJ Khaled definitely got the crowd ready for Queen Bey and Jay-Z.

On to the main event!! The lights went out and there was Beyonce and Jay-Z being brought down from what seemed like the sky to hit the stage. They gave the crowd two hours of nonstop music accompanied by perfect choreography, two moving runways, and a moving stage. The set list of 39 songs included some of the crowds favorites like “Drunk In Love,” “On to the Next One,” “Big Pimpin,” “99 Problems,” “Crazy In Love,” “Resentment & Run the World (Girls)” as well as debuting some of their new music “Apeshit” from their collaborative album “Everything Is Love” which was released on June 16, 2018 exclusively on Tidal. There were also video snippets throughout the performance chronicling Beyonce & Jay-Z’s love story which included their kids Blu Ivy, Rumi & Sir Carter. The crowd roared when the kids were shown on screen. The videos were touching and a great add to the show. One concert attendee, Meako Bailey, summed up the show by saying “Bomb Show! Power couple of 2018.” We truly agree with this assessment. A show of this nature is definitely something that everyone should experience. Even if you are not a big fan of either, you will have a great time and get to see how you are treated to not just a concert but an Ultimate Experience that will have you wanting more!!! Check out some of the photos and videos from OTRII in Chicago.
