RBRM Hits Miami!!!
November 25, 2018
G-Squared Events and Hot 105’s 4th Annual R&B Groove hit Miami at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, FL on Saturday, November 10. The line-up included local artist Ronnie V, Donna Allen, Babyface and the shows headliner, RBRM (Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky & Mike). RBRM embarked on a 32-city tour across the U.S which kicked off on September 6 in Ontario, CA and ended on November 11 in Tallahassee, FL.
Anyone that know us know that New Edition is one of our favorite groups of all time. When it was announced that RBRM was set to tour we were elated. twinKonnections had an opportunity to check out the Miami show.
The night kicked off with local artist Ronnie V, whose sultry voice lit up the stage and singer Donna Allen, who remade Frankie Beverly and Maze’s song Joy and Pain in 1989.
Babyface was up next. We have seen Babyface in concert before and he never disappoints. He took to the stage with his band and performed hit after hit. He has written so many songs for others such as My Prerogative by RBRM’s own Bobby Brown. Babyface has become known for his signature stroll through the crowd after he teases the fans with his shirt open. Everyone always goes wild and loves every minute of him whipping through singing End of The Road, a song he wrote and produced for Boys II Men.
Mr. Tom Joyner, the Legendary Fly Jock Radio Personality, who will retire in 2019, took the stage to introduce the shows Headliner, RBRM! Tom has spent the last 25 years on the airwaves of his syndicated radio show, The Tom Joyner Morning Show.
Everyone is familiar with the Boy Band New Edition and were hoping for another All Six Tour. When it was announced that RBRM
(Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, and Mike) would tour, loyal fans were disappointed, however excited at the chance to see some of their favorites on the road.
When the show opened, each member of RBRM was introduced with a collage of photos from their journey starting in 1983 to present. The display was very cool to see illuminating
on the big screen on stage. The technical arrangement was awesome from beginning to the end of the show which included snippets of videos from various songs. After the introduction, the members of RBRM brokeout to a fan favorite singing Bobby Brown’s, My Prerogative. This performance was high energy and got the crowd ready for an adrenaline rush for the rest of the show. The million-dollar question was "Would Bobby Brown make each tour date and how would he sound?" Well, Bobby proved all the nay sayers wrong. We had no doubt that Bobby would pull it off. He performed each night of the tour and he sounded great. In fact, when they performed Roni, also written by Babyface, on their press tour in NYC at Sirius XFM Radio in August 2018, the video of him singing went viral. This set the tone and let us all know the tour would be awesome!!!
The crowd was on their feet the entire time enjoying the MAGIC of Bobby Brown and Bell Biv Devoe. Ricky took time out during the show to give accolades to Bobby for his strength and for pushing forward despite the hardships he has faced throughout his life. The two-night “Bobby Brown Story” aired on BET on September 4 and 5, a few days before the RBRM tour kicked off.
Another highlight of the night, that no one expected, was their new arrangement for Jealous Girl, which kicks off with Mike rapping and a surprise solo singing performance by Ronnie, followed by Ricky and Bobby adding their solo touches. It was great!!!! The band, the dancers, and the background singers all rocked the house. Even though the guys are seasoned, they were able to keep up with the choreography and it was HOT!!!!!
Some of the other songs performed included, I Thought It Was Me, That’s the Way Love Is, Mr. Telephone Man, Do Me! and Roni where Ronnie, Mike, and Ricky act as Bobby’s background singers displaying the smooth moves only Brooke Payne, their choreographer and manager, can masterfully coordinate. The show concluded with another fan favorite, Poison!!!!!! RBRM showed true brotherhood and comradery. Bravo on a successful tour!!!
New Edition, who hail from the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, celebrated their 40th Anniversary in September 2018. RBRM is an extension of this rich legacy and this tour showcases why all members have and will maintain legendary status for years to come.
If you missed the tour, don’t worry you can still catch it next year. The second leg of the tour will start in April 2019, so grab a ticket when it hits your city. You won’t be disappointed.
