Lauryn Hill Shows Up on Time and Tells Where She’s Been

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary Tour hit Chicago on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Chicago Theater.  Lauryn Hill, a singer and rapper, is best known for her solo album Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and a member of the Fugees.  twinKonnections had an opportunity to check out the show.

We must admit that we had reservations about attending the event. Lauryn Hill's history of showing up late for her shows didn’t make you want to run out to see her.  In fact, she was three hours late for a show in another city right before she made her way to Chicago.

We arrived at the theater just in time for one of the openers, Patoranking from Africa.

Ms. Hill was scheduled to hit the stage around 9:15pm.  Patoranking ended their show around 8:45pm.  Would she be on time?

The music started playing at around 9:25pm and Lauryn Hill hit the stage.  Everyone in the theater was on their feet. We were all excited that she was on time and ready to hear this treasure perform and that she did. Ms. Hill performed hit after hit from the Miseducation Album such as Everything is Everything and Doo Wop (That Thing).  “In the spirit of the pressures that come from other people pulling the strings of your career, I’ve purposely existed a bit outside of the mainstream, so I can be a purer, richer, truer more authentic version of myself” says Lauryn. She gave credit to the audience for being intelligent enough to find her and said she will make more music and when she makes music it’s from a genuine place just like the Miseducation was made from. Almost two hours later, Lauryn Hill had redeemed herself. She gave the crowd so much of the Lauryn we all use to know and love.
